Mobycon Team-member Receives Medal for Volunteering for Cycling

the Governor General of Canada Sovereign Medal for Volunteering
Mobycon’s senior engagement officer, Hans Moor, received the Governor General’s Sovereign Award for Volunteering for his exemplary bicycle advocacy work in Canada, and Ottawa in particular.
Hans got involved with municipal cycling advocacy in 2009 when he joined local bike advocacy group Citizens for Safe Cycling, now known as BikeOttawa. He soon became the president of the organisation.
Hans and his team helped create the foundation for an improved cycling environment and a stronger cycling culture by focusing their efforts on infrastructure improvements, information sessions with local and international speakers, as well as annual events such as bike light handouts and winter bike parades.

The group also led knowledge exchanges on traffic, health, planning issues and environmental benefits with key decision makers – helping them push the status quo for a bicycle-friendly Ottawa.

Over the years Hans and his team received many awards, but the Governor General's medal is a very special one. "As an immigrant, and going somewhat against the grain, it means a lot to me that my volunteer work and vision is recognized by the Governor General Canada", says Hans.

After thirteen years at the Embassy of the Netherlands as an economic officer, Hans started working for Mobycon North America this April. He is focusing on Mobycon’s engagement efforts in North America, making use of his marketing background and abilities as a renowned storyteller and speaker on all things cycling.

Congrats Hans!
