Dutch bicycle planning abroad
Johan Diepens, founder and CEO of Mobycon will travel to Mexico June 16 as a member of a delegation organized by the Dutch Cycling Embassy to share Dutch bicycle expertise. Johan will present "Network Approach & Cycling Mobility Solutions."
Creating cycling networks is one of Johan's areas of expertise. In the early 1990s, he helped pioneer the star analysis method of network creation in collaboration with the Technical University of Delft. This approach focuses on connecting origins and destinations to create a network that facilitates daily travel on the bike. Johan has studied the City of Delft's cycle network, which was the first complete cycling network built in The Netherlands. He has created dozens of networks and bicycle plans for Dutch cities in his 25 years as a traffic engineer. In recent years, he has developed bicycle 2.0 projects - such as bicycle promotion and creating better intermodal connections - at home while also sharing his experience abroad.
This will not be Johan's first visit to North America. He has also taught bicycle planning and policy to a dozen cities in Canada through Kickstand Sessions Master Classes. Check out Johan's advice to the City of Calgary last year.
Mobycon offers research and consulting services related to all aspects of bicycle planning from policy and infrastructure to facilities and culture. However, services extend beyond to cover all modes of transportation and aspects of sustainable mobility management.
