BITS Project Nominated for REGIOSTARS Award

The Bicycles and Intelligent Transport Systems project has been nominated for a REGIOSTARS Award in the category “A Connected Europe”. Below, there is more information about the project and the voting process.

We are delighted to announce that one of the projects we were involved in is nominated for the REGIOSTARS Awards, the label of excellence for EU-funded projects. Co-funded by the Interreg North Sea Region, the Bicycles and Intelligent Transport Systems (BITS) project was a collaboration between cities, regions, universities, and other organizations from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, and the UK. On behalf of Lead Partner Province of Overijssel, Mobycon managed this project with over 30 smart cycling implementations across these five countries in Europe from 2019-2022.

Throughout the project, these organizations worked together on implementing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for bicycles that encourage cycling. The main focus was to make cycling safer, convenient, and attractive. Managing how to use ITS to encourage cycling was one of the main challenges. Through different cycling implementation programs, people in cities across Europe can now cycle easier and safer than ever before.

One of the core objectives of the BITS project was to make cycling safer and more convenient. By using new innovative ITS technologies, the project created systems that would not only protect cyclists but also make their journeys smoother and more enjoyable. This includes features like smart cycling infrastructure, implementing bike-sharing services, and integrating cycling data into city planning. These technologies also improved digital cycling data in cities, making it easier for planners to develop better cycling policies based on actual data.

Did you know?

The BITS project has transformed how digital cycling data is used in cities. Before, the focus was mostly on traffic data for motor vehicles. Now, with the implementations in various cities, planners have much clearer and more detailed data on cycling patterns, helping them make informed decisions for improving cycling infrastructure.

Voting Information

We are proud to have been part of this project, and we would greatly appreciate your support in the upcoming award voting. Voting is open to the public from now until the 9th of October at 12:00 CET.
