No Place for Speed-Pedelecs? Road Allocation Challenges and what they Reveal
Session 6.4: Connecting Regions, Cities, and Neighborhoods
Moderator & Speaker: Dagmar Köhler
Wednesday, June 19 @ 14:30 – 15:15 CEST
“Speed-Pedelecs are electric bicycles capable of reaching speeds of up to 45 km/h. However, their best place on the road remains an unsolved question: Should they ride on the road to avoid a threat to conventional bicyclists or should they ride on cycling infrastructure to be protected from motor traffic? In this session, participants will get an overview of the differences in regulatory frameworks across several European countries and discuss latest insights from Germany, Switzerland, Germany and Flanders, Belgium. In this session, we will discuss implications for integrating speed pedelecs into existing transport systems, bridging research with practice. Empowering practitioners, advocates, and policymakers, this session fosters informed decision-making to shape the future of urban mobility.”

CIE: Data-Driven Cycling: Maximizing the Benefits of Floating Bike Data
Session 12.3: Connecting Industries & Sectors
Speaker: Robin Kleine
Friday, June 21 @ 11:00 – 11:45 CEST
“The Cycling and ITS Session at Velo-City Ghent will focus on the work being carried out by the MegaBITS project to develop a comprehensive data set for ‘Floating Bike Data’. ‘Floating Bike Data’ has the potential to provide valuable data for city planners and policy makers on the trips and trace data that cyclists in their city or region make. This data can help inform better infrastructure planning, routing and even traffic management for cyclists. The use cases are almost limitless. What’s key is that floating bike data will bring a layer of accuracy and granularity to cycling that has never been achieved before. In this panel, partners of the MegaBITS project as well as technology providers will discuss successful applications of floating bike data, and where a developed, standardised data set could take cycling and urban planning in the future.”
Velo-City 2024
Mobilizing Europe’s Green Ambitions through Bicycles and Intelligent Transport Systems (MegaBITS), is a collaboration of ambitious partners consisting of cities and regions (Copenhagen, Hamburg, province of Antwerp, Le Havre, Overijssel, Zwolle and Enschede) and others (CIE, imec, Chalmers) in which cycling data and ITS is used to improve cycling conditions in the various regions and beyond. Mobycon’s Robin Kleine will be demonstrating the use and maximization of floating bike data. Learn more about MegaBITS here.
Mobycon will offer five sessions in total, all held at our booth, #58. Learn how to use Streetsketch, an online tool for street design, or learn how to design safe and protected roundabouts! These sessions are taught by one of Mobycon’s own, Anna Wyner or Robin van der Griend. Visit our booth to sign up!
